Introducing KROMA's Newest Colour - Quinacridone Gold Hue

KROMA is now producing Quinacridone Gold Hue as a part of our regular production. This often-requested colour is a three-pigment mixture based on a cult favourite whose pigment manufacturer stopped producing it over 20 years ago.

While KROMA's specialty is single pigment recipes, there are some blended colours we do make by popular request. With this blend we have done our best to match the unique characteristics that make this colour beloved by artists. A glowing, deep orange mass tone breaks into a warm golden orange mid-tone and a shrill, cool, yellowish undertone. We achieved this by blending a mixture of Nickel Azo Yellow, Transparent Red Oxide and Benzi Burnt Orange.

Until I began mixing with this colour I was unsure of whether we should produce it. We make other reddish browns such as Transparent Red Oxide or our long time favourite, Benzi Burnt Orange. I was convinced when I saw how Quinacridone Gold holds light like a glowing gemstone. With super strong tinting power and crystal clear translucency, Quinacridone Gold is ideal for glazing techniques and is a popular under painting colour. It also functions as an energized reddish brown de-saturator for bright colours.

I hope you enjoy this colour as much as we have enjoyed making it.

This chart is shows the mass and undertone, tints with white pigments, and blends to give examples of how Quinacridone Gold mixes with other pigments. The mass tone shows the paint as it is straight out of the tube. A wash shows the paint diluted with a small amount of water to show its undertone. Tints are diluted 50/50 with Zinc and Titanium White. The rest are blends to give a sense of how the colour looks when combined with other pigments.
