Honey acts as the humectant for homemade watercolour paints, helping them to retain moisture and to re-wet nicely. It also increases the flexibility of the binder, as gum arabic can be quite brittle, and acts as a preservative. Assuming the watercolour produced is not binder-starved, honey will help prevent it from cracking in the pan. For more information on making watercolour paint, click here.
